Dozens of Iranian and Iran-linked tankers are stranded across Asian waters as Washington tightens the squeeze on Tehran’s sanctioned oil trade.

Eastora News·

The Wall Street Journal reports that around 20 empty Iranian tankers are drifting off Sri Lanka alone, with some crews running short of food, fuel and fresh water.

Other vessels have been stuck near Malaysia and elsewhere in Asia since July, after the U.S. reimposed its blockade of the Strait of Hormuz and stepped up pressure on ports and maritime companies servicing Iranian ships.

Washington has also warned Sri Lankan companies that supplying sanctioned vessels could expose them to secondary sanctions, making regional firms increasingly reluctant to assist the fleet.
