NYT: U.S. and British officials believe suspects arrested near RAF Fairford were linked to an alleged Iran-backed operation

Eastora News·

The New York Times reported that U.S. and British officials believe the men were connected to an operation backed by Iran and potentially linked either to the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps or to another military command in Tehran.

Investigators are still trying to determine who recruited the men, whom one official described as “unwitting pawns.”

The newspaper also reported that U.S. military commanders received intelligence in mid-September warning of a possible Iran-backed attack on RAF Fairford.

The warnings were based on informants and intercepted communications but did not include a specific date or detailed attack plan.

The base subsequently raised its alert level and moved equipment and assets as part of additional security measures.
