German Chancellor Merz makes surprise visit to Kyiv, pledging €1 billion in military aid and €350 million for energy repairs

Reuters reported that Friedrich Merz reaffirmed Germany’s support for Ukraine during the unannounced visit and said Berlin would continue backing Kyiv.

Germany will provide €1 billion in military assistance and €350 million for repairs to Ukraine’s energy infrastructure.

Berlin and Kyiv are also finalizing a joint drone production agreement.

Merz warned that Russia’s “war machine” could eventually turn against Europe.
