Japan summoned U.S. Ambassador George Glass after a U.S. Marine was arrested on suspicion of robbing and murdering a 39-year-old woman in Okinawa.
The suspect, Lance Corporal Devin Jacob Ballard, 20, is accused of killing the woman at a hotel in Naha and stealing her belongings.
Japanese officials lodged a formal protest and demanded full U.S. cooperation with the investigation.
