Voting begins in Brazil’s presidential election as Lula and Flavio Bolsonaro face a close race
World
Brazilians have begun voting in a presidential election featuring 12 candidates, with nearly 159 million people eligible to cast ballots.
The main contest is between incumbent President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva and Senator Flavio Bolsonaro, with recent polls showing a tight race and a runoff likely.
Preliminary results are expected within hours of polls closing because Brazil uses electronic voting nationwide.
If no candidate wins more than 50% of valid votes, the two leading candidates will advance to a runoff on October 25.
