The U.S. military has had 81 aircraft destroyed or damaged during the war with Iran, according to an Oct. 5 Congressional Research Service report. The tally includes 45 MQ-9 Reaper drones, 12 F-15E Strike Eagles, an F-35A fighter and an E-3 Sentry surveillance aircraft.
Some of the aircraft were only damaged and may have returned to service, including eight F-15Es that sustained light damage. The Congressional Budget Office estimated equipment losses at $1.9 billion to $3.3 billion, while CNN reported that the overall cost of the war has reached at least $45 billion, excluding damage to infrastructure at U.S. bases in the region.
