Abbas sets simultaneous Palestinian presidential and legislative elections for September 2027, replacing the legislative vote scheduled for November

Eastora News·

Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has issued a decree calling for presidential and legislative elections to be held together on September 11, 2027, according to the official WAFA news agency. The decree follows a decision by the Palestine Liberation Organization’s Executive Committee.

The decree cancels an earlier order that had scheduled legislative elections for November 28, 2026. It cites obstacles attributed to Israeli measures and the need for suitable political, security and on-the-ground conditions, as well as further national dialogue. Palestinians have not held legislative elections since 2006.
