Brazilian police kill suspect after rescuing 13 children from Curitiba kindergarten, where he spread a flammable substance and assaulted children

Eastora News·

Brazilian police killed a suspect and rescued 13 children from a kindergarten in Curitiba’s São Braz neighborhood on Friday, October 9, after he held them hostage during a standoff lasting up to three hours, officials said.

The man had climbed over a gate and entered a classroom carrying a knife and what was later identified as a fake firearm. He spread a flammable substance and held a lighter, according to officials. Police said the children became agitated and the suspect began assaulting them, prompting a tactical intervention.

At least one child was wounded; the other children were rescued safely. A Paraná military police special forces commander said the suspect reportedly had schizophrenia. Curitiba City Hall said psychological support would be provided to the children and school staff.
