Venezuela’s interim president authorizes Starlink to operate under an agreement with SpaceX, formalizing the satellite internet service nationwide
Interim President Delcy Rodríguez has authorized SpaceX’s Starlink satellite internet service to operate in Venezuela under an agreement with the U.S. company, Reuters reported, citing the Venezuelan government.
Venezuela’s telecommunications regulator, Conatel, said it granted seven general concessions to SpaceX VZ S.C.A. to establish formal operations in the country, with a local domicile and regulatory oversight.
Conatel said the authorization followed cooperation after twin earthquakes on June 24 damaged telecommunications infrastructure in La Guaira. The regulator had previously issued temporary permits for technology tests, including satellite-linked text messaging and service using the Ku band.
