Bangladesh dengue deaths reach 303 as cases near 100,000, exceeding the country’s previous annual death toll record before year’s end
Bangladesh recorded four more dengue deaths and 2,193 new hospital admissions in the 24 hours to Sunday morning, bringing the year’s toll to 303 and the cumulative number of hospitalised cases to 99,275, according to the Directorate General of Health Services. A total of 92,803 patients have recovered and been discharged.
October has recorded 58 deaths so far, following 148 in September. By the same point last year, Bangladesh had reported 53,606 cases and 225 deaths, compared with this year’s 99,275 cases and 303 deaths.
Health authorities also reported seven additional deaths among people with measles-like symptoms and more than 1,200 new infections. Since mid-March, deaths linked to the outbreak have reached 1,162, including 104 confirmed as measles deaths. The Health Ministry says it has immunised about 20 million children as part of the response, alongside routine vaccination.
Bangladesh’s previous highest annual dengue death toll was 281, recorded in 2022; the 2026 toll has already surpassed that figure.
