Bessent says U.S. is working with Pakistan and Turkey to restrict Iran’s overland trade and may seize about $1 billion in crypto

Eastora News·

U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said Washington is working with Pakistan and Turkey to restrict Iran’s overland trade routes, and that the United States may seize about $1 billion in cryptocurrency linked to Iran.

Speaking at the Newsmax NPolicy Summit in Washington on Thursday, Bessent said the seizure could happen this week. He did not clarify whether the amount would be in addition to cryptocurrency seizures previously announced by the U.S.

The remarks form part of what Bessent has described as a broader U.S. campaign to isolate Iran economically. The Treasury Department has also targeted Iranian cryptocurrency exchanges with sanctions.
