China’s Jiaolong submersible prepares for its 466th dive in the western Pacific, with a planned descent of about 4,500 meters

China’s research vessel Deep Sea No. 1 reached the East Caroline Basin in the western Pacific on October 10, carrying the crewed deep-sea submersible Jiaolong for scientific research. The dive is planned to reach about 4,500 meters and will be Jiaolong’s 466th.
The operation is the first Jiaolong dive in the East Caroline Basin during the second leg of China’s Ocean Expedition 100.
