Pope Leo XIV says lung nodule was found at an early stage and will be removed this week, with the Vatican expecting about a week of recovery

Eastora News·

Pope Leo XIV announced on Sunday, October 11, that he will undergo surgery in the coming days to remove a lung nodule discovered during recent medical checks. He said it was found at a very early stage and was well localized.

The Vatican said the operation is scheduled for the first days of the week and estimated his recovery would take about a week. It is set to take place at Rome’s Gemelli Hospital. The 71-year-old pope has no previously known health problems.

Leo is scheduled to visit Uruguay, Argentina and Peru from November 6 to 17. It is not clear whether the surgery and recovery period will affect the trip; during Sunday’s remarks, he said he planned to go.
