“Really sad” and “pathetic”: Kansas Senate candidate Adam Hamilton rebukes Vance’s attack on his faith during ABC interview
Kansas Democratic Senate candidate and pastor Adam Hamilton criticized Vice President JD Vance on Sunday for attacking his religious beliefs, calling the remarks “really sad” and “pathetic” in an interview with ABC’s Jonathan Karl. Hamilton said Vance did not know him or understand his faith and described the criticism as a sign of desperation.
Vance made the remarks at a Kansas rally last month, accusing Hamilton of insulting people’s faith and spitting on their religion to raise donations. Hamilton said his Christian faith shapes his daily life and how he treats others; he described praying and reading scripture each morning. He also said he had written 36 books on theology, faith and scripture, and called it sad that the vice president would attack the faith of a pastor leading Kansas’s largest church and the country’s largest United Methodist church.
Hamilton is the Democratic nominee challenging Republican Sen. Roger Marshall in the November 3, 2026, Kansas Senate election.
