U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio pledged Washington’s cooperation with Japan’s investigation into the alleged murder of a woman in Okinawa by a U.S. Marine, who is in Japanese custody.
The Marine Corps is also cooperating with Japanese authorities and has begun a 30-day period of reflection involving restrictions on Marines stationed in Okinawa.
Japan’s government has protested the case and called for full U.S. cooperation, stricter discipline among U.S. service members and measures to prevent similar incidents.
