Zelensky says Ukraine will stop refinery strikes if Russia halts attacks on Ukrainian energy sites, insisting any de-escalation must be mutual and guaranteed
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Sunday that Kyiv was prepared to halt strikes on Russian oil refineries if Moscow stopped attacking Ukraine’s energy infrastructure. He said any de-escalation must be mutual and backed by real guarantees.
Zelensky said he would continue talks with European leaders Sunday. Discussions are taking place daily on additional air-defense packages and ammunition for combat aircraft.
He also reported that the death toll from Saturday’s Russian strikes on the southern Ukrainian city of Zaporizhzhia had risen to 23, including four children.
The proposal came after U.S. President Donald Trump urged Ukraine to stop striking Russian refineries. Trump also called for Ukraine to replace Zelensky after the Ukrainian president criticized a diesel deal between Washington and Moscow.
