A 14-year-old was arrested after a hunting-rifle shooting wounded a principal and teacher at a school near Marseille; a third person was grazed

Eastora News·

A 14-year-old was arrested Monday after shots were fired at Joseph Lakanal middle school in Aubagne, near Marseille, wounding the principal and a teacher. A third person was grazed, police said, and neither staff member was in life-threatening danger.

French Education Minister Édouard Geffray said the teenager was suspected of being a pupil at the school. Several shots were fired inside the building before staff subdued the teenager and law enforcement intervened, according to reporting by Euronews. The Marseille prosecutor’s office confirmed the arrest but gave no further details.

The prime minister’s office said the interior and education ministers were heading to the scene. Police told AFP the school was not affected by the recent high school demonstrations sweeping France and that there did not appear to be a link between the shooting and the protests.
