EU adds nearly 1,600 Russia sanctions listings, with more than half tied to ballistic missile production, Kaja Kallas says
The European Union has adopted nearly 1,600 new sanctions listings targeting Russia’s military-industrial complex, EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas announced on Monday, October 12. She described the move as the largest single expansion of the bloc’s sanctions list since Russia began its war against Ukraine in 2022.
Kallas said more than half of the listings are connected to the production chain for ballistic missiles. The Associated Press reported that the measures target Russian people and companies linked to the arms industry, including suppliers of parts for drones and missiles.
The Associated Press also reported that the EU targeted 77 people accused of organizing, working on or running what it described as “sham elections” in occupied parts of Ukraine.
The EU said the companies are identified by the Russian government as part of its military-industrial complex, making them eligible for state subsidies. The bloc’s sanctions regime includes asset freezes and restrictions on transactions with listed entities.
