Hackers remotely trigger forced refrigerator defrosting at hundreds of French Intermarché and Coopérative U supermarkets, spoiling fresh and frozen food

Eastora News·

A cyberattack overnight into Monday, October 12, disrupted refrigeration systems at hundreds of Intermarché and Coopérative U supermarkets in France, forcing many stores to discard fresh and frozen goods, AFP reported. The hackers remotely activated a forced-defrost function, according to the report.

Coopérative U president Dominique Schelcher confirmed that the attack affected refrigeration equipment at several stores in the network. He said teams were working with refrigeration technicians to restore operations and that an investigation would determine what happened.
