Iraqi F-16s destroy Daesh position in two strikes in Diyala, less than two weeks after US-led coalition mission ended

Eastora News·

Iraqi F-16 fighter jets carried out two air strikes on Sunday, destroying a position used by Daesh in the Narin area of Diyala province, the Security Media Cell said in a statement carried by the Iraqi News Agency.

The cell said the operation was based on intelligence from the Military Intelligence Directorate and coordinated with the military’s aerial reconnaissance and surveillance center. It reported that the position was completely destroyed but gave no casualty details, saying more information would be released later.

The strikes came less than two weeks after the US-led coalition’s mission against Daesh in Iraq officially ended on September 30, nearly 12 years after it began.

Iraq declared victory over Daesh in December 2017 after retaking all territory previously held by the group. Iraqi forces have continued operations against its remaining remnants.
