Israeli documentary “NAZA” tops $500,000 at U.S. box office without a major distributor, expanding to 85 theaters amid controversy
The documentary “NAZA,” directed by Israeli filmmakers Yuval Abraham and Rachel Szor, has earned about $504,000 in the United States in less than two weeks of screenings, i24 reported. The film, which accuses Israel of genocide in Gaza, draws on testimonies from Israeli soldiers to criticize the army’s policy on collateral damage during the war.
After several sold-out screenings at Manhattan’s IFC Center following its presentation at the New York Film Festival, the film expanded to 85 theaters in about 30 U.S. cities. It grossed $298,240 during its second weekend. In Israel, some voices have called for measures against the directors and investigations into people who took part in the documentary. Abraham and Szor also co-directed “No Other Land,” about Palestinians in the West Bank’s Masafer Yatta region, which won the 2025 Oscar for Best Documentary. “NAZA” is scheduled for a limited two-day release in France on October 12 and 13.
