Putin ready to halt strikes on Ukraine on election day if Kyiv holds a vote, Peskov says, limiting the offer to the day of voting
Russian President Vladimir Putin would be prepared to instruct his forces not to strike Ukraine on the day of an election if Kyiv decides to hold one, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters on Monday. He stressed that any halt would apply “specifically” to election day.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said Ukraine needs a 60-day ceasefire to organize elections. The Associated Press reported that he also described holding a vote during the war as impossible without security guarantees.
The remarks came amid renewed discussion of elections in Ukraine. Peskov’s statement addressed a halt on election day, rather than the longer ceasefire Zelenskyy said would be needed to organize a vote.
