Trump-aligned MAGA Inc. to pull funds from Michigan House race as GOP focuses on Ohio, Alaska and Iowa to defend Senate majority
MAGA Inc. and a leading House Republican super PAC plan to stop spending in Michigan’s 8th Congressional District by midweek, as Republicans redirect resources during the final three weeks before the Nov. 3 midterm elections, Politico reported, citing officials familiar with the strategy.
The move comes as Democratic Rep. Kristen McDonald Rivet holds an advantage over Republican challenger Tom Smith, according to one GOP official. President Donald Trump narrowly carried the district in 2024, winning about 50% of the vote to Kamala Harris’s 48%. Republican officials described the planned pullback as a reallocation of spending, not a reduction in total planned spending, and said more coordinated shifts across House races could come over the next seven to 10 days.
Trump officials view Ohio, Alaska and Iowa as increasingly important to retaining the Senate. A senior Republican official told Politico that winning two of those states would make it harder for Democrats to take the chamber, while a sweep would put it out of reach—though Republicans would also need to win Texas and other at-risk states and flip Michigan or another Democratic-held state.
Republican Senate groups have already stopped spending in North Carolina and reduced some spending in Georgia, while still planning further investment there. On the Democratic side, Senate Majority PAC plans to add $2.5 million in Iowa and $7 million in Ohio for television advertising, Politico reported.
