U.S. envoys Witkoff and Kushner put Moscow trip on hold as Washington seeks Ukraine-Europe backing for a peace proposal to present to Putin
U.S. envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner have put a planned Moscow visit on hold while the Trump administration gauges whether Ukraine and European governments will support a unified proposal for Russian President Vladimir Putin, Axios reported.
The envoys met Ukrainian negotiators and European officials in Miami to discuss proposals intended to break the diplomatic deadlock. The discussions covered security guarantees for Ukraine, a postwar economic plan and possible limits on attacks against energy infrastructure. Washington wants Kyiv and its European partners to back a common position before taking it to Putin.
Witkoff and Kushner have previously traveled between Russia and Ukraine as part of the administration’s effort to negotiate an end to the war.
The reported pause comes amid tensions between President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky over Russian energy exports and Ukrainian strikes on Russian refineries. Trump has also called for Ukraine to get a new president, according to the Associated Press.
