Erdogan tells Saudi crown prince Turkey will keep backing Riyadh amid Ansarallah attacks, condemns the strikes and says “this challenge will be overcome”
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan told Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman in a phone call on Tuesday that Ankara would continue to support Riyadh amid attacks by Yemen’s Armed Forces, also known as Ansarallah, the Turkish presidency said.
The presidency said Erdogan strongly condemned the attacks and told the crown prince he believed “this challenge will be overcome.”
Separately, Türkiye and nuclear-armed Pakistan signed a joint defense pact in August stipulating that an attack on either country would be considered an attack on both. Türkiye is a NATO member.
Saudi Arabia has faced a series of attacks on airports and civilian facilities in recent days. The Saudi-led coalition said it had intercepted and destroyed three drones north of Riyadh.
