Hegseth plans to livestream Nidal Hasan's firing-squad execution as Trump raises doubts over broadcast
U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth plans to livestream the December 3 execution of Nidal Malik Hasan, the former Army psychiatrist convicted of killing 13 people in the 2009 Fort Hood shooting, Axios reported.
Hasan is scheduled to be executed by firing squad at Fort Hood in Texas. The Pentagon has confirmed plans to livestream the execution, although details on where or how the broadcast would be available have not been announced.
President Donald Trump, who approved Hasan's execution, has since expressed doubts about livestreaming it. Vice President JD Vance and House Speaker Mike Johnson have also raised concerns about broadcasting the execution.
The Pentagon has not disclosed the firing-squad procedure it plans to use. Such executions generally involve multiple shooters firing simultaneously at the condemned prisoner's chest, but procedures vary by jurisdiction.
Only six firing-squad executions have been carried out in the United States since capital punishment resumed in 1977. The U.S. military last used a firing squad in 1945 and last carried out any execution in 1961.
