Rubio and Miliband reaffirmed safe passage through Hormuz and security coordination in Britain, while backing a negotiated end to the Russia-Ukraine conflict
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and UK Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband discussed the Strait of Hormuz, Iran and the Russia-Ukraine war in a call on October 12, according to a U.S. State Department readout. They reaffirmed their commitment to safeguarding transit through the strait and to continued cooperation on securing U.S. assets in the United Kingdom, while stressing the importance of holding Iran accountable for its actions.
Rubio also affirmed the value of the U.S.-UK partnership in stabilizing global energy markets and bringing the Russia-Ukraine conflict to an end through a negotiated settlement.
On October 12, the UK and other governments issued a joint statement condemning Iranian attacks and hostile activity against their countries and partners. The statement recognized the UK’s attribution of Iran’s involvement in an incident at RAF Fairford on September 27.
