Trump says he is considering firing U.S. Ambassador to Greece Kimberly Guilfoyle after reports she sought $100,000 from a donor
President Donald Trump said Monday, October 12, that he was considering removing Kimberly Guilfoyle as U.S. ambassador to Greece, following reports about her conduct before and during her tenure. Asked about firing her, Trump replied, “We’re looking at it,” adding, “We’re not happy.”
The Wall Street Journal reported that Guilfoyle asked Trump supporter Eric Deters in July 2025 to pay a $100,000 credit-card bill. The newspaper said it reviewed messages and screenshots related to the request. Deters declined, according to the post, saying the payment would cost him his marriage. The Journal also reported that Guilfoyle offered to use her connections in the administration to help Deters, who was seeking assistance with personal tax and legal matters.
The reports surfaced as Secretary of State Marco Rubio visited Athens last week. The Journal has also reported that Guilfoyle discussed luxury travel and stays funded by wealthy Greek business figures. Her lawyers denied wrongdoing, saying the money Deters was asked to pay was for appearances and speaking engagements that predated her nomination and had gone unpaid.
