White House asks U.S. Ambassador Kimberly Guilfoyle to Greece to resign after Trump said he was considering firing her amid misconduct reports
The White House has asked Kimberly Guilfoyle, the U.S. ambassador to Greece, to resign, press secretary Katie Zacharia confirmed on Tuesday, October 13. The Wall Street Journal had reported the development earlier.
A day before the announcement, President Donald Trump told reporters he was considering firing Guilfoyle and said, “We’re looking at it. Yeah, we’re not happy.”
The request follows reports of alleged misconduct before and during Guilfoyle’s diplomatic posting in Athens.
The Wall Street Journal reported allegations that Guilfoyle sought money from a donor and accepted gifts or services. Her lawyers have denied wrongdoing, saying the payment at issue was for speaking engagements arranged before her nomination and that she complied with federal gift and reporting rules.
