Britain staged a six-day Falklands recapture exercise with 150 paratroopers and 100 reservists as Argentina steps up pressure over the islands
Britain ran a six-day exercise rehearsing a recapture of the Falklands, involving about 150 paratroopers from 2 Para and 100 local reservists, The Times reported. The troops practiced landing at San Carlos, marching overnight to Goose Green and storming objectives with Typhoon jet support. They also trained against modern threats, including drone attacks. One officer said they got to “walk in the footsteps of our forefathers.”
The exercise comes as President Milei has called the islands “illegally occupied” at the UN and warned that Argentina would “take matters into our own hands.” Argentina has also gone to an international tribunal to block a $2.2 billion British oil project near the islands.
PM Burnham said the UK would do “whatever it takes” to keep the islands British. Defense officials say Argentina lacks the military capability to attempt a takeover, while the British garrison—fighter jets, missiles and infantry—remains ready.
