Federal agents subpoena Ilhan Omar’s sister and at least one other relative in criminal inquiry into her family’s immigration history
The New York Times reported that federal agents investigating Democratic Representative Ilhan Omar have subpoenaed her sister, Sahra Noor, and at least one other family member as part of a criminal inquiry into the family’s immigration history.
The subpoenas followed a search warrant executed at Omar’s Washington, D.C., home by Department of Homeland Security agents, who removed boxes of documents. The inquiry focuses in part on whether Omar’s late father, Nur Omar Mohamed, gave false information or omitted details on immigration forms before obtaining U.S. citizenship.
Omar criticized the search on Monday, describing it on X as an effort by the Trump administration to intimidate political opponents, target political enemies and weaponize federal law enforcement. She said she would not be silenced.
On Tuesday, President Donald Trump wrote on Truth Social that Omar had committed fraud and that America wanted answers immediately. Vice President JD Vance said he had received no advance notice of the search.
