Huckabee says Iran war could hurt Trump politically only if Americans are "oblivious" to Tehran's threat
U.S. Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee said any political damage President Donald Trump suffers from the Iran war ahead of the midterm elections would be because Americans are "oblivious to the Iranian threat."
In an interview with Miranda Devine on the Pod Force One podcast, Huckabee said grocery and fuel prices matter but argued Americans should also ask whether their children have a future if Iran obtains nuclear weapons. He also asserted that Iran's government seeks to kill people who refuse to accept its interpretation of Shia Islamic law.
Huckabee rejected the argument that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu tricked Trump into the war. "Netanyahu did not trick Trump. Trump is too smart to be tricked," he said, adding that he was in the White House Situation Room when key decisions involving Trump and Netanyahu were made.
The ambassador praised Israelis as "unbelievably resilient" and said they do not view themselves as a population under siege. On Gaza, he placed responsibility for Palestinian deaths on Hamas, saying, "The reason people died in Gaza was because of Hamas."
Huckabee also linked U.S. support for Israel to religion and history, arguing that Christianity rests on a Jewish foundation and that Western civilization would not have developed without a Judeo-Christian foundation.
