Russia launches 167 missiles and drones at Ukraine, killing three and knocking out power to 600,000

Eastora News·

Russia launched 167 missiles and drones at Ukraine overnight, in a large-scale attack that primarily targeted energy infrastructure in Kyiv, the Kyiv region and Kharkiv.

Ukraine’s Air Force said the barrage included 39 missiles and 128 drones. Ukrainian air defenses intercepted only four of the missiles.

Authorities said three people were killed in Kyiv. At least 21 people were wounded in a ballistic missile strike that hit a nine-story residential building in the capital’s Desnianskyi district.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said 30 energy facilities were damaged and at least 600,000 people were left without electricity. Russia’s Defense Ministry said its forces struck four power plants in and around Kyiv and two in Kharkiv.

Zelenskyy called the attack “entirely deliberate and demonstrative in its scale” and said Russia had shown “such ostentatious disrespect toward the United States.” He said Ukraine had refrained from striking Russian energy facilities since President Donald Trump announced an energy ceasefire.

The attack came after Ukraine again said it had received no advance warning from Western partners about incoming Russian ballistic missiles, despite Trump saying U.S. intelligence sharing with Kyiv was continuing.
