Some top Republicans privately see keeping House control as likely impossible, shifting focus to limiting losses and salvaging the Senate majority

Eastora News·

Some top congressional Republicans have privately concluded that keeping control of the House in the midterm elections is likely impossible, Politico reported, citing five senior Republican lawmakers who spoke anonymously. They said the House had all but slipped away and that the party was now focused on limiting the scale of its defeat and salvaging its Senate majority.

One senior House Republican said the party’s goal was to save as many Republican seats as possible, adding that President Trump was not helping. The lawmaker said Trump had made the election all about himself, leaving party members to try to survive the political storm.
