Trump accuses Ilhan Omar of fraud over amended financial disclosure, demands answers on reported wealth
U.S. President Donald Trump accused Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar on Tuesday of possible fraud over a congressional financial disclosure that originally listed household assets of between $6 million and $30 million before being amended to between $18,004 and $95,000.
"Why did Ilhan Omar report a Net Worth of up to 30 Million Dollars just a short time ago, and then immediately say, 'Oh, I made a mistake! It's really $100,000,'" Trump wrote on Truth Social.
Trump went further, suggesting without providing evidence that the higher figure could have reflected money from "fraudulent activities in Minnesota." He also questioned the source of Omar's homes and cars and accused her of illegally bringing people into the United States from Somalia.
Omar has said the original disclosure overstated the value of two businesses tied to her husband because liabilities had not been properly accounted for. Her amended filing reduced the couple's reported assets to between $18,004 and $95,000.
Federal agents searched Omar's Washington, D.C., home on October 12 as part of a separate investigation that appears to concern immigration records connected to her family. No evidence supporting Trump's fraud allegations has been publicly disclosed, and Omar has denied wrongdoing.
