Trump administration pushes Israeli unity government proposal that could keep Netanyahu in office for up to two years before political retirement
The Trump administration is pushing for a broad Israeli unity government under which Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu could remain in office for up to two years before retiring from politics, Israel Hayom reported.
The proposed coalition would bring together Netanyahu’s Likud party and Gadi Eisenkot’s Yashar party. Its stated aims include ending ongoing regional conflicts and securing diplomatic agreements, particularly normalization with Saudi Arabia.
Under the reported framework, Eisenkot’s bloc would seek guarantees that Netanyahu eventually retires, a reversal of controversial judicial reforms and an investigation into the October 7 attacks.
U.S. officials have conveyed their preference for a broad coalition without extremist parties to senior Israeli political figures. No formal agreement has been announced.
