U.S. warned Ukraine it could immediately halt all intelligence sharing over further strikes on Russian energy sites, WaPo reports
U.S. intelligence officials warned Ukraine that any further strikes on Russian energy infrastructure could trigger an immediate halt to all U.S. intelligence sharing, The Washington Post reported Wednesday.
The warning was delivered to the Ukrainian Embassy in Washington, according to a person familiar with the matter. “The warnings were so widespread that anyone with a Ukrainian-sounding last name got a call,” the person told the Post.
U.S. intelligence sharing with Ukraine has not been fully cut off, the source said, but the threat remains in place.
The warning followed pressure from the Trump administration for Kyiv to stop attacking Russian refineries and other energy sites. Ukrainian officials have interpreted the message as a threat that Washington could also restrict critical military support if the strikes continue.
President Donald Trump said Tuesday that the United States was still sharing intelligence with Ukraine. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky also said Kyiv had received warnings and threats over intelligence cooperation, but that they had not yet been carried out.
The dispute comes as Ukraine says it has suspended strikes on Russian energy infrastructure under Trump’s proposed “energy ceasefire,” while accusing Moscow of continuing large-scale attacks on Ukrainian power facilities.
