Bipartisan U.S. senators seek urgent probe into reported Starlink speed limits and Ukraine disruptions, citing impaired air defenses and personnel unable to reach bunkers
A bipartisan group of U.S. senators has asked the Department of Defense inspector general to immediately investigate reported speed restrictions on SpaceX Starlink terminals and critical intelligence-sharing disruptions in Ukraine between October 12 and 14, 2026.
The senators’ letter raises concern that unexpected service limitations, reportedly affecting speeds of 63 to 100 mph, degraded Ukraine’s ability to defend against air attacks. It also says U.S. diplomatic, military and security personnel were unable to reach bunkers during Russian air raids.
The lawmakers are seeking answers about the Defense Department’s oversight of its contracts and whether SpaceX or the U.S. government implemented the restrictions. They also want to know what steps are being taken to protect American personnel and maintain essential services.
