Denmark's Frederiksen says Putin cannot be trusted and Russia "wages war against Europe every single day"
Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen said Friday that she does not believe Russian President Vladimir Putin can be trusted and rejected the idea of closer cooperation with Moscow.
"What are we supposed to cooperate on when they want to take over parts of Europe?" Frederiksen said. She added that Russia "wages war against Europe every single day," directly through its invasion of Ukraine and through hybrid operations against other European countries.
Frederiksen said that if Russia genuinely wanted peace, it could simply stop the war. "They are the ones attacking. Nobody else is attacking in Europe right now except Russia," she said.
She also warned that Ukraine has effectively run out of money and lacks sufficient resources to buy or produce everything it needs, particularly as Russian attacks intensify ahead of winter. Frederiksen called for additional European funding and said frozen Russian assets were an obvious source to consider.
On migration, she said Europe must stop outside actors from using migrants as part of hybrid warfare by pushing people across borders.
Frederiksen also rejected reports that European leaders had been urged to tone down public criticism of President Donald Trump, saying democratically elected leaders must be able to disagree openly with one another.
