Iran continues limited LPG and jet fuel exports despite US naval blockade, with some cargoes leaving since July as crude shipments remain halted
Iran has continued exporting limited quantities of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and jet fuel despite a US naval blockade, Reuters reported, citing shipping data and maritime security sources indicating that some cargoes have left the region since July.
In recent weeks, Iranian shipments have been concealed among a growing volume of ship-to-ship transfers involving other Gulf producers off the coast of Oman, four sources tracking Gulf oil movements told Reuters.
An analysis by United Against Nuclear Iran (UANI), a US advocacy group that monitors tanker movements using vessel and satellite tracking, identified at least eight gas tankers carrying Iranian LPG that had departed the Gulf of Oman since mid-July. UANI analyst Jemima Shelley told Reuters that a small number of tankers carrying Iranian LPG had passed through, while US forces had redirected the overwhelming majority of vessels carrying Iranian petroleum products.
The shipments represent only a fraction of Iran’s previous energy exports, while crude oil exports remain halted, according to the report.
