Iran’s navy reported that an oil tanker caught fire while attempting to cross a restricted maritime zone in the Strait of Hormuz. The navy said the vessel had allegedly disabled its tracking systems and entered a prohibited route in the Sea of Oman before the fire broke out.
IRIB reported that naval surveillance teams had identified the tanker as violating the restrictions. The navy warned that vessels entering prohibited areas without coordination risk creating insecurity and endangering other ships.
The statement did not identify the tanker or its flag, give the cause of the fire, or say whether any crew members were injured.
