Trump fires White House press secretary Katie Zacharia just five days into the job

Eastora News·

President Donald Trump fired White House press secretary Katie Zacharia on Friday, just five days after she began the role, according to The New York Times.

The newspaper cited three people familiar with the matter. A White House official separately told Reuters that Zacharia had been “let go,” while Fox News reported that she was transitioning out of the position. (Reuters)

Her departure followed a turbulent first week that included a poorly received debut briefing and scrutiny over her legal credentials after she acknowledged that she had not passed the bar exam. (The Guardian)

Earlier Friday, Trump told reporters that he had advised Zacharia to reconsider whether she wanted the job, saying she had been subjected to intense scrutiny. He stopped short at that point of publicly saying she had been fired. (TIME)

Zacharia had been offered the press secretary position on Oct. 9 and held her first White House briefing on Tuesday. (The Guardian)
