Wang Yi urges Israel to halt and reverse West Bank settlement expansion, calling Palestinian cause “the greatest historical injustice”
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi urged Israeli President Isaac Herzog to halt and reverse Israel’s expansion of settlements in the occupied West Bank during a meeting in Azerbaijan. In a statement released Friday, China’s foreign ministry quoted Wang describing the Palestinian cause as “the greatest historical injustice of this century.”
Herzog said in a post on X that Thursday’s meeting covered relations between the two countries and the situation in the Middle East.
Wang said promoting peace and reconciliation across the region remains the “cornerstone” of China’s West Asia policy. He reiterated Beijing’s view that a two-state solution is the appropriate path and said the immediate priority is to ensure full access to the Gaza Strip and prevent a humanitarian “catastrophe” from spreading.
He added that China is prepared to work with the international community to encourage all parties to resume dialogue and consultations as soon as possible and pursue a political settlement.
