Qatar to finance and implement project to modernize Lebanon’s electricity infrastructure as prime ministers agree on energy framework and lower-cost upgrades
Qatari Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani and Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam said Friday that Qatar would finance and implement a project to rehabilitate and modernize Lebanon’s electricity production infrastructure. The project is intended to address longstanding problems with reliable electricity supply and would be carried out at a lower cost, Salam said.
During a visit to Lebanon, Al-Thani said the two countries had agreed to establish a comprehensive framework for energy-sector cooperation and present viable solutions. He described the initiative as a project Qatar had discussed with Lebanon for years and said it was now “about to see the light of day.”
Salam said the two sides were close to reaching a project agreement aimed at rehabilitating, developing and modernizing electricity production infrastructure.
