IRGC spokesman criticizes ‘Mother of All Bombs’ name as reports describe possible U.S. plans to strike Iranian energy and nuclear sites
Brigadier General Hossein Mohebi, a spokesman for Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), criticized the use of “Mother” in the name of a U.S. bomb, saying only “a barbaric civilization” would apply such a sacred term to a weapon. He made the remarks in a message on Saturday.
Mohebi also said the future belongs to a nation that turns the biggest threats from its enemies into a subject of public humor.
The remarks followed reports that the U.S. military had developed strike plans that could involve the GBU-43/B Massive Ordnance Air Blast, known as the “mother of all bombs,” against Iranian energy infrastructure and nuclear sites if President Donald Trump orders combat operations to resume. Its possible use would be a significant escalation in the ongoing conflict between Tehran and Washington. Officials familiar with the military planning have questioned whether the weapon would effectively achieve U.S. strategic objectives.
