The Trump administration is proposing that Europe resume buying Russian gas as part of a Ukraine peace deal, a proposal that could provide Moscow with billions in revenue and renewed economic influence, The New York Times reported.
Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff have discussed restarting Russian gas pipelines through Ukraine and potentially Nord Stream. U.S. investors could also receive a share of the profits.
Germany strongly opposes the proposal, warning that renewed dependence on Russian energy would threaten European security. The AfD, by contrast, supports restoring imports to lower energy prices.
