Australian Navy chief orders audit of every fleet bathroom after hidden recording device is found aboard HMAS Leeuwin

Eastora News·

The Guardian reported that a hidden video-recording device was found in a women’s bathroom aboard the Australian Navy survey ship HMAS Leeuwin while it was docked in Cairns. Chief of Navy Vice Admiral Matt Buckley ordered an audit of every bathroom across the fleet; no other devices were found.

Buckley described the discovery as “an act of sexual violence” and “the most despicable betrayal of trust.”

A Defence Force member has been identified as a person of interest and stood down with pay while military police investigate. Buckley said there was no evidence so far that any footage had been shared, after Senator Jacqui Lambie raised concerns in parliament that recordings may have been uploaded online.
