Egypt’s Parliament postpones vote on authorizing military support for Saudi Arabia to Oct. 26; some lawmakers seek details on army’s role

Eastora News·

Egypt’s Parliament has postponed a vote on authorizing President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi to send military support to defend Saudi Arabia. Lawmakers said the vote is now scheduled for October 26.

The House of Representatives held closed emergency sessions on Sunday and Monday. Most members reportedly supported the move, while some asked for more details about the army’s role.

Egypt’s constitution requires a two-thirds parliamentary majority before forces can be sent on a combat mission abroad. Sisi has said any deployment would be defensive only and would depend on a request from Saudi Arabia, which Riyadh has not publicly made.
