Erdogan says Türkiye has stayed out of regional conflicts through restraint as he describes the surrounding region as a “ring of fire”
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Monday that Türkiye had stayed out of regional conflicts by resisting provocations, avoiding political traps and taking a cautious approach. Speaking at the Presidential Complex in Ankara, he credited patience, intelligence and common sense with helping his government navigate difficult regional developments, and said officials were working around the clock to protect the country from escalating crises.
Erdogan described the geopolitical landscape around Türkiye as a “ring of fire,” citing the Russia-Ukraine war, ongoing Israeli attacks on Palestine and tensions involving neighboring Iran. He said the Ukraine war was approaching its fifth year and that Israeli attacks continued despite signed agreements. He also pointed to new conflicts in Yemen, including Houthi attacks targeting Saudi Arabia, troubling conditions in Lebanon, and what he called Israeli attempts to destabilize Syria.
He said his administration would continue working to prevent Türkiye from being drawn into regional turmoil. Erdogan described the country’s avoidance of direct involvement in conflicts in neighboring states as the result of a measured approach that resists pressure and exercises restraint, adding that Ankara remained focused on protecting national security from external shocks.
