Israeli police arrest eight in West Bank violence probe after attacks on US journalist and European diplomats, with suspects’ identities undisclosed
Israeli police said Monday that eight suspects had been arrested for questioning in an investigation into weekend violence in the West Bank. Their identities and the specific accusations against them have not been disclosed. Israeli radio station Galatz reported that the suspects are Israeli, and the Shin Bet domestic security service is participating in the investigation. Prosecutions of Israeli settlers are rare.
On Friday, masked settlers assaulted Washington Post photojournalist Heidi Levine, a US citizen, as she covered a Palestinian olive harvest. The following day, masked settlers separately attacked European diplomats and a French mayor. The incidents drew strong condemnation from the United States, France, Belgium and Poland.
